K-Pop idols have always been praised for being multi-talented. Whether they are good at variety shows or talented at producing music, K-Pop fans love to see their favorite idols branching out into new fields.
One of the fields that have seen an increase in popularity is the musical industry. More and more K-Pop idols are venturing into musical acting and taking on challenging roles and performances.
So, we’ve compiled a list of the musicals that will be on in 2022 starring K-Pop idols in the cast.

1. “KLIMT: Into the Time of His Soul”
What it’s about: It tells the heartbreaking story of master artist Gustav Klimt.
Cast: Kwak DongHyun, E’LAST’s SeungYeop, Cherry Bullet’s HaeYoon, and more
When: Oct.12, 2021 – Mar. 1, 2022
2. “EQUAL”
What it’s about: It is set in 17th century Europe and explores the friendship between a patient and a doctor.
Cast: Jeong JaeHwan, 2PM’s Jun.K, NU’EST’s BaekHo, Golden Child’s Hong JooChan, V.O.S Kim KyungRok, and more.
When: Dec. 31, 2021 – Feb. 20, 2022
Update: A re-performance of this musical will start on June 3rd with a cast including WonHo, VROMANCE’s HyeonSuk, VICTON’s SeungSik and SeJun, and Golden Child’s Hong JooChan.
DKZ’s KyoungYoon and DKZ’s JongHyeong have been added to the cast, too.
3. “Jack the Ripper”
What it’s about: It tells the story of a detective trying to solve a serial killer murder case.
Cast: Uhm KiJoon, FTISLAND’s HongGi, INFINITE’s Nam WooHyun, ASTRO’s MJ, SF9’s InSeong, and more.
When: Feb. 25 – Feb. 27
4. “Xcalibur”
What it’s about: It is a retelling and new visualization of King Arthur’s legend.

5. “ON AIR”
What it’s about: “On Air” is a theater-type visible radio show.

6. “Another Miss Oh/Oh Hae Young, Again”
What it’s about: Based on the K-Drama of the same name, a man mistakes two women with the same name as one person.

When: From March 8
7. “Death Note”
What it’s about: It is based on the Japanese manga “Death Note” but the Korean musical has been redesigned from the Japanese musical.
Cast: Hong KwangHo, Go EunSung, JYJ’s JunSu, Kim SungCheol, Kim SunYoung, Jang EunAh, Kang HongSeok, Seo KyungSoo, former Lovelyz’s Kei, and more

8. “Fan Letter”
What’s it about: It is set in 20th-century Korea under Japanese colonial rule and tells the story of star writer HaeJin and his fan and assistant SeHun who is also hoping to be a writer someday.

When: Dec. 10, 2021 – Mar. 20, 2022
9. “Secretly Greatly: The Last”
What’s it about: It is a story about the three members of the 5446th North Korean special operation unit infiltrating a village of South Korea with the grand mission of reunification. It is based on a webtoon.
Cast: N.Flying’s Yoo HweSeung, SF9’s Yoo TaeYang, Lee Howon, Oh JongHyuk, Baek InTae, and more
When: May 14 – Jul. 3
10. “Blue Helmet: Meissa’s Song”
What’s it about: The musical is set in South Korea and the fictional country Khamur. It is set during a civil war and followers the story of Laman (from Khamur) who visits South Korea. You can also stream the previous version of the musical online at LIVENow.

11. “Midnight Sun”
What’s it about: It tells the story of growth, friendship, and the love story of Haram, a blindingly bright sunshine-like boy, and Haena, a girl who shines like the moonlight.
Cast: SHINee’s Onew, Ha SungWoon, PENTAGON’s JinHo, Golden Child’s Y, Kwon EunBi, Apink’s Kim NamJoo, Song GeonHee, Lee SangA

12. “LIZZIE”
What’s it about: It is a rock musical based on the story of the infamous ax-murderer Lizzie Borden.

13. “KPOP The Musical”
What’s it about: A Broadway musical about Korean culture and the popularity of the K-Pop genre.
Cast: f(x) Luna, MIN, Kevin Woo, KEEMBO’s Kim BoHyung (former SPICA member), Lee MinYoung (former Miss A), and more.
When: From Nov. 20
14. “Seopyeonje”
What’s it about: “Seopyeonje” tells the tale of SongHwa and DongHo’s coming-of-age story and the conflict they have with their father. The siblings go on a journey to find their voice.
Cast: SF9’s JaeYoon, Kim JunSu, Kim DongAn, Hong JiYoon, Yang JiEun, and more.
When: August 12 – October 23
15. “Volume Up: The Dreamer”
What’s it about: It is a story about a live club that turned into an ugly store and the musicians surrounding it.
Cast: Se7en, Park SiHwan, Nam TaeHyun, Jo JungMin, Oh ARen, and more.
When: May 13 – August 7
16. “Yeodo”
What’s it about: A story about the imagination of King DanJong of the Joseon Dynasty and his uncle King SeJo. It tells the story of a hidden son who crosses them both.
Cast: SF9’s ZuHo, Hur HyunJun, INFINITE’s Jang DongWoo, Bigflo’s EuiJin, and more.
When: May 28 – July 10
17. “Bungee Jumping Of Their Own”
What’s it about: One a rainy day in 1983, fateful love finds its way under InWoo’s umbrella. He ends up waiting endlessly to meet her again as he had forgotten to ask her name.
Cast: Ren, Lee ChangYong, Lee JungHwa, and more.
When: June 2022 – August 21
18. “Mata Hari”
What’s it about: It tells a story set in World War I and the story of Mata Hair who is a dancer-spy from the Netherlands. She lives a grand life as an exotic dancer and double-agent spy for France and Germany.
Cast: MAMAMOO’s Solar, BTOB’s ChangSub, FTISLAND’s HongGi, and more.
When: May 28 – August 15
