Dutch outfit VanMoof has announced its latest generation ebikes, the VanMoof S5 and A5. Both models feature an ultra-silent powerful motor, long-range battery, a powerful boost, and the latest VanMoof anti-theft tech.
Created with longer rides in mind, the S5 ebike features a refresh of the unmistakable VanMoof straight frame, reworked to increase the height of the riding position, with larger 27.5-inch wheels. It is for riders between 165 and 210 cm tall (approximately 5’5″ to 6’11”).
The new VanMoof A5 ebike is designed more for shorter ranges and city rides. It has an angled frame with lowered step-in and 24-inch wheels, and it is for riders between 155 and 200 cm in height (roughly 5’1″ to 6’7″). The bike weighs 22kg (48.5 lbs). In addition, the A5 comes with multiple cargo options making it the perfect ride for city errands.
The new VanMoof bikes are powered by a 250-W motor packed into the front wheel hub, which has been re-engineered to operate in near-silence. The 487-Wh removable battery pack offers up to 150 km (93 miles) of range on the S5 and 140 km (86 miles) on the A5. An additional 441 Wh battery is also available as an option and provides a range of up to 140 km. Using the Gen % charger, you’ll be able to charge the battery to 50% of capacity in 2 hours and 30 minutes and fully in 6 hours and 30 minutes. With a speed charger, you will be able to juice up your e-bike’s battery to half capacity in an hour and to 100% in four and a half hours.
In addition, the VanMoof S5 and A5 are packed with refined, high-quality, and ultra-low maintenance parts. An industry-first LED Halo Ring Interface is integrated into the bike’s handlebars to provide riders with effortless, intuitive feedback about their speed, battery levels, and connectedness. A new optional phone mount and USB-C charging port turn every rider’s phone into a dashboard. This makes navigation and on-the-go charging easy whilst also offering a data-rich ride thanks to the updated VanMoof app.
The all-new torque sensor elevates the responsive riding experience, meaning the bike reacts to your own distinct pace and movements. The famed VanMoof anti-theft technology has been honed with a revamped in-wheel kick lock, bigger pin, and new auto retract function. Moreover, the VanMoof bike secures itself with a tap and is able to unlock automatically upon the rider’s return. Mudguards that reach low enough to protect trouser bottoms are fitted as standard. Lighting integrated into the frame allows you to be seen.
The VanMoof S5 and A5 come in gray and are on sale worldwide from April 5 for $2998. Deliveries start from July. A range of accessories, including an optional click-on external battery, became available in early Summer 2022.
